The ‘Leisure, Environment and Community’ brief is a wide one, and a new task I have taken on this year. In spite of the name, leisure is no easy option! it covers leisure centres, community centres, activities, as one might expect but the ‘environment’ side means bin collections and all related matters, including watching for fly-tipping.
A major issue which has arisen is the new Leisure Management Contract which the council are entering into. The plans now revealed include cutting out much of the space in the William Penn Leisure Centre to put in bouncy castles, and thus displace several established and popular activities, including netball and taekwondo.
Some details can be seen on the Council’s new Leisure Management Contract webpage.
