What a glorious day for it!
Attending the Canal Festival at the climax of Ricky Week may be a stern civic duty; to cheer on the boats, to lounge on the field and to chat to the stall-holders, while guiding the children around their favourite rides eating ice-cream.
The canal bank and the Aquadrome were packed, as every year, with the most genial crowds you could imagine, and that is a tribute to our villages.
I live to see where council-tax payers’ money is going, and I am glad to that Three Rivers District Council is supporting such an event, and gladder that the real support, the support that actually makes it happen, is from the volunteers who care for the canal and the festivities. The Council is small; the people are big. That is how it should be.
